General tab of the Object Format dialog box

This tab shows general properties for selected objects.

Name

Shows the object's name and lets you add or change it, unless multiple objects are selected.

Layer

Shows the layer name the objects are on. You can move the selected objects to another layer by selecting it from the drop-down list.

Coordinates

Displays the Object Coordinates dialog box, which lets you precisely reposition the object, precisely position any of the points that define an object's shape, or create a new circle, ellipse, jointed line, rectangle, or square at a precise location and with precise dimensions.

Properties

Displays the Object Properties dialog box.


Object Coordinates

The remaining options in the dialog box let you precisely position the object or the individual points that define its shape. The specific items that appear depend on the type of object you have selected (line, arc, poly object, rectangle, square, polygon, ellipse, circle, dimension line, callout line, text, or image object

If multiple objects are selected, you see only those properties that are common to the objects. Any formatting changes will applied to the objects as a group.

X

Horizontal location of a point on the page.

Y

Vertical location of a point on the page.

From

Origin point of an arc, rectangle, square, polygon, ellipse, circle, pie wedge, dimension line, callout line, text, or image object.

Width

Width of an arc, rectangle, polygon, pie wedge, dimension line, callout line, text, or image object.

Height

Height of an arc, rectangle, polygon, pie wedge, dimension line, callout line, text, or image object.

Keep Proportional

Automatically adjusts the height or width if the other is changed for an arc, rectangle, polygon, pie wedge, dimension line, callout line, text, or image object.

Side

Length of each side of a square.

Point

List of points of a poly object. Each point can be selected.

Replace

For poly objects, replaces the selected point.

Append

For poly objects, appends a point.

Delete

For poly objects, deletes the selected point.

Major

Major diameter of an ellipse.

Minor

Minor diameter of an ellipse.

Angle

Angle of an ellipse.

Radius

Radius of a circle.


Preview Button

The Preview button lets you see the effect of any changes on a selected object. (This button has no effect if no object is selected.) You may have to move the dialog box to see the selection.

Apply and Close Buttons

The Object Format box stays open to let you apply changes to objects without having to open the dialog box repeatedly. Click Apply each time you want to apply a change to a selected object. The dialog box does not close until you click Close.

Rolling up the Dialog Box

By rolling up the Object Format dialog box, you can keep it accessible, but out of your way. Click on the title bar to roll up the dialog box. Click to unroll it.
